Expanding Affordable Housing Opportunities

The Need

There’s a huge need for more affordable housing in most places in the U.S. The need is constantly changing and is affected very significantly by the national economy, as well as regional and local factors. You can’t promise to meet the need for something that is constantly changing and affected by factors beyond your control. But, you can do many things to expand affordable housing “opportunities.” An affordable housing opportunity is created when a household is paying 30% or less of its income toward rent. This means that short or long term subsidies, and acquisition and rehab with subsidies are ways to create new affordable housing opportunities for people who need them.
